The Indian Grand Prix: New Delhi Post-Qualifying Tips

Formula 1 Tips For The Indian Grand Prix

Every Grand Prix weekend I give myself 100 points and place a few hypothetical bets using the odds available from SkyBet.com and see how I do.  In general I always like to wait until after qualifying before placing my bets, so to test whether that's the best strategy or not, I place a selection of tips before and after qualifying and see which set of tips do best.

You can find my pre-qualifying tips here:

And here are my post-qualifying tips...

To Win Outright:
15 points on Lewis Hamilton at 8.0
On current form you can understand why Sebastian Vettel is the 1.4 odds on favourite but at odds like that there’s not much money to be made.  In Lewis Hamilton's post-qualifying interviews, he seemed to think that McLaren have the pace to give the Red Bulls a fight in tomorrow's race so I'm going to go for a small bet on Lewis Hamilton for the win at odds of 8.0.

To Finish In The Points (Top Ten Finish):
20 points on Bruno Senna at 3.0
Both the Williams drivers of Pastor Maldonado and Bruno Senna seemed to think they could have got more out of qualifying.  Added to this, Senna tends to race better than he qualifies so although he’s been out of sorts in recent Grand Prix, starting from 13th tomorrow he has to be considered for a points finish.

Top Six Finish:
20 points on Fernando Alonso at 1.29
Alonso has been the podium specialist this season but based on the form so far this weekend he doesn’t look quite as good a proposition for a top three finish in tomorrow’s Grand Prix.  I’m therefore going to go for a more cagey bet on a top six finish for Alonso.  The odds are really short at 1.29 but given that Fernando has recorded a top six finish at 10 of the last 12 Grand Prix it still looks like decent value.

Fastest Pitstop:
10 points on Jenson Button at 3.25
McLaren have been setting fastest pitstop records in recent Grand Prix so take your pick between Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button who are both priced at 3.25.

Not To Be Classified:
10 points on Michael Schumacher at 4.5
Schumacher has retired from 7 of the 16 Grand Prix so far this season, and although his recent form isn’t quite so bad (2 retirements from 6 Grand Prix), he still looks a decent bet at odds of 4.5 not to be classified.*

* N.B. If a driver retires within five laps of the finish they would still be classified.

Dual Forecast:
5 points on Hamilton/Webber at 21.0
Red Bull have had decent reliability this season, but they haven’t been bulletproof.  This is a speculative bet but if Vettel runs into trouble at any stage then Hamilton and Webber should be well placed to take advantage.

Finally, I'll use up my remaining points on a few driver match bets…
Kimi Raikkonen V Romain Grosjean:
7 points on Kimi Raikkonen at 1.29

Pedro De La Rosa V Narain Karthikeyan:
7 points on De La Rosa at 1.5

Nico Rosberg V Michael Schumacher:
6 points on Nico Rosberg at 1.62

As already mentioned, I also placed a few hypothetical points bets before qualifying so I'll report back after tomorrow's race and see how the two sets of bets compare.
