The Singapore Grand prix: Singapore Round-Up

Retirements meant that a lot of my tips didn't come off this week but the detailed performance of my pre-qualifying and post-qualifying tips for the Singapore Grand Prix are as follows:

Post-Qualifying Tips:
To Win Outright:
20 points on Lewis Hamilton at 1.61 - LOSS
Lewis looked to be in control of the race until gearbox failure put paid to his chances.

To Win Outright (Eachway):
20 points on Pastor Maldonado at 19.0 - LOSS
Pastor Maldonado looked comfortable in 4th until unfortunate timing with the safety car moved him down the field, followed soon after by a retirement.

To Finish On The Podium:
30 points on Fernando Alonso at 2.5 - WIN 75 points
Fernando's consistent ability to get the maximum out of his Ferrari continued at Singapore with a podium finish.  He was also the only one of my post-qualifying tips to finish.

To Finish In The Points (Top Ten Finish):
20 points on Bruno Senna at 5.0
Bruno Senna was running as high as 9th at one stage before Massa and Webber pushed him down to 11th whereupon he became yet another of my tips to retire due to car failure.

Fastest Lap:
10 points on Michael Schumacher at 19.0
Schumacher became the fourth of my five tips to register a DNF when he went into the back of Vergne taking them both out of the race.

Total return of 75 points from 100 points making an overall loss of 25 points.

Pre-Qualifying Tips:
To Win Outright:
25 points on Lewis Hamilton at 3.25 - LOSS
See above.

To Win Outright (Eachway):
10 points on Mark Webber at 17.0 - LOSS
A scruffy race weekend for Mark and he never really looked in with a chance.

To Finish On The Podium:
25 points on Kimi Raikkonen at 2.88
Kimi was solid but unspectacular all weekend and never able to recreate the form he has shown over the last few races.

To Finish In The Points (Top Ten Finish):
30 points on Nico Rosberg at 1.67 - WIN 50 points
A respectable performance from Nico to get the best out of his Mercedes and bring his car home in 5th.

Fastest Lap:
10 points on Sebastian Vettel at 7.0
The fastest lap at Singapore went to Nico Hulkenberg.

Total return of 50 points from 100 points making an overall loss of 50 points.

. . . . . . . .

Once again the statistics suggest that the best time to place your bets is after qualifying with the results currently standing at:
Pre-Qualifying: 0
Post-Qualifying: 2

However, given that both my sets of tips made a loss this week, it's perhaps also worth mentioning that the safest option would have been not to have a bet at all!  If I include a third category the results are therefore:
Pre-Qualifying: 0
Post-Qualifying: 1
Don't have a bet at all: 1

I’ll post another set of tips before the Japanese Grand Prix and once again I’ll be making my predictions both before and after qualifying to see how the two sets of tips compare, so check back before Japan to see who I go for.

. . . . . . . .

As previously mentioned, betting can be a risky business so please be aware that these tips are just a bit of fun to see how my predictions do and also to analyse whether my theory of waiting until after qualifying is the right way to go.  A small bet can add to the excitement of the race but given the unpredictable nature of formula 1 a bit bet is just stupid.  Never bet more than you can afford to lose.

The safest way to bet is with points rather than cash, so for anyone who’d like the chance to bet with points for the chance to win cash prizes I recommend checking out a cool website called olbg.com.  They award prizes every month in several sporting categories for the best performers of the month and it’s completely free to play, so if you want to discover more than check out the following link:
